Afternoon pickup changes | Chuukese

Construction is underway at Harney Elementary. Four new classrooms on the west side of the building will help make class sizes smaller for kindergarten through third grades. This work is funded by a bond measure that voters approved in 2017 and a state grant.

To allow construction vehicles to access the site, the parking lot on the north side of the school (accessible from Edgewood Drive) temporarily will be closed to parents and staff members until the anticipated completion of the project in fall 2019.

If you drive to pick up your child from school, please note the following changes:

• Starting on March 4th, instead of entering the north lot to pick up your child(ren) from school at the end of the day, please wait along the south side of Edgewood Drive until the bell rings. The city will place temporary no parking signs along this portion of the road to allow for student pickup. Please see the attached map for clarification.
• At the end of the day, staff members will lead students out the gym doors on the northwest side of the building and take them to the north side the property. We will create a temporary pedestrian path from the northwest corner of the gym up to Edgewood Drive, between two of the portables.
• Your child(ren) will meet you on Edgewood Drive between Grove Street and the entrance to the parking lot.
• This pickup procedure will apply to parents and guardians of second-grade through fifth-grade kids in the afternoon for the remainder of this school year.
• If you require ADA parking to pick up your child(ren), please coordinate with the front office. This parking will still be available in the current lot on the northeast corner of the building.

To ensure that you have enough room to pull up along the south side of Edgewood Drive, we have asked neighbors not to park there during pickup hours and there will be signs posted to enforce this temporary change. We recommend entering the temporary queueing line on Edgewood from Grove Street, to the east.
